Ladies and gentlemen, your new NL East leaders. Behind a strong start by Tommy Hanson, along with home runs by Chipper Jones and Troy Glaus, the Braves beat the Phillies 9-3. The Braves have now won 16 of 20 and have picked up 7.5 games in that span.
Despite the success, the Braves need to figure out what is wrong with Nate Mclouth. Another 0-4 game dropped his average down to .179 while leading the team in strikeouts. His BABIP is at .238, but he’s also hitting infield flies at a career high. It’s clear that he’s starting to get frustrated at the plate and he will need to pull himself out of it soon. Mclouth has always been a favorite of mine, he’s a hard-working player who has turned into a strong starting center fielder when most thought he was nothing more than a fourth or fifth outfielder. Hopefully he gets his bat going before it’s too late to salvage the season.
