The Catching Situation in Pittsburgh is Dire
Pirates catchers since Chris Snyder was injured last Wednesday: 0-for-17.
That’s zero hits, by the way. As in none. Zilch. Nada. Lowest number possible.
The Pirates have now used six catchers on the season, their most since 1988, with Mike McKenry the most recent addition to the list. He went 0-for-3 last night, by the way.
At this point, the catching tandem of Chris Snyder and Ryan Doumit look like Hall of Famers compared to the McKenry, Dusty Brown, and Wyatt Toregas rotation that’s been wriggling their way into the starting lineup lately.
The Pirates may be chasing their first .500 record since 1992, but they’ll need someone to contribute from behind the plate if that’s going to happen.
