On Tuesday’s Scott Van Pelt Show, Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria stated that his hands would be bare/un-gloved* tonight when the Tampa Bay Rays faced the Cincinnati Reds. Despite an 0-for on Monday, Longoria reaffirmed on the show his confidence in going gloveless, which was a slump-buster on Sunday when he went 8-for-14 with 3 home runs and 10 RBI in his first three game bare-handed. It seems simple enough, but then I saw the clip embedded above and questions arose. Foremost among them: Why is Longoria wearing batting gloves when he hits the game winning home run?!
For context, it may be important to note that Longoria was 0-for-3 at this point in the game, with a strike out, a ground out, and a fly out.
Still, other questions:
- Did he actually go gloveless at some point in the game?
- Is Longoria a waffler? A forgetful flake? A damn, dirty liar?
- Is Longoria so superstitious that he is now alternating between gloves and no gloves each at bat?
Whatever the case, I’ll bet Longoria wearing batting gloves during his first at bat tomorrow. After that, it’s anybody’s guess.
*Obviously, I mean at the plate. I think gloves are required in the field at this point.
Evan Longoria is a flip-flopper. I will never elect him to any public office higher than State Senate. Remember that.

But you didn’t ask the tough question here: What if Evan Longoria married Eva Longoria?
