Cause and Effect
Though the Athletics gave the Marlins their first one-run victory after fourteen consecutive losses, they can at least go home happy knowing that they raised $29,000 for juvenile diabetes.
Strangely enough though, they raised the money during their annual Root Beer Float day.
Now, I love the creamy concoction that is ice cream mixed with root beer, and I hate juvenile diabetes, but it’s an odd team-up. Perhaps the A’s should have combated the disease on “Free Veggies Day!” or with a “Wilfred Brimley Post Game Concert Extravaganza” rather than with a food item that contains nearly 60 grams of sugar.
Chris Volstad got the victory and Trevor Cahill took the loss, but on a day where the fizziness of root beer is combined with the smoothness of ice cream all in the name of battling disease, isn’t everyone a winner?
