Old Time Family Baseball

Michael McKenry, a 26-year-old rookie and the Pirates seventh catcher to play this season, just hit a 3-run home run to give the Pirates a 7-4 lead against the Cubs in the bottom of the eighth. It was his first career longball and one which required him to jump up the dugout steps and give the home fans a tip of the cap. 

And just in case you don’t think the Pittsburgh fans were amped up by it, take a look at the crowd as McKenry rounded the bases: 

I don’t know how the season is going to end for the Pirates, but like a cheesy baseball movie which features a plucky team of slaughterhouse-working orphans, there is something magical going on.
