Congratulations, Mr. Moyer. In the third inning Vernon Wells hit his 19th home run of the year which pales in comparison to the 506 that Jamie Moyer has now allowed in his career, passing Robin Roberts for most all-time. Other than the two run shot by Wells, Moyer stymied the Blue Jays the rest of the way. Moyer went 7 innings while allowing only six hits in the Phillies 11-4 win.
It’s amazing that Moyer has been able to stretch his career past 4,000 innings (which he also did earlier today), considering that it looked like his career was over in 1991 at the age of 28. He did not play Major League Baseball again until 1993 and since then he has been perhaps the most consistent pitcher in the game. Giving up home runs is a product of being put out there on the mound, so Moyer should hold his head up proud.
He’s now 267-201 and looks like he could conceivably pitch for another season or two if teams will have him.
