Jay Bruce hit a two run home run in the bottom of the eighth off of Roy Halladay to beat the Phillies 4-3. Halladay wasn’t his usually deadly self as he gave up 13 hits, but still limited the Reds to 4 runs as he saw his record drop to 9-7. It’s surprising and it makes very little sense, but Halladay would probably have a better record if he was still with the Blue Jays this year just because they have been mashing the ball all year and haven’t had the bizarre offensive funk that the Phillies seem mired in. The loss of Polanco and Utley is not going to do much to help the Phillies out in that regard.
For the Reds it was their 25th comeback win and 14th in their final at bat. When people talk about the Reds as not being for real, it’s that you usually can’t count on end of game comebacks very often.
