Cliff Lee, momentarily forgetting the Chris Denorfia is so good at doing little things that they become big things, softly lobbed a toss to keep Jason Bartlett in check at first base, allowing Denorfia, standing at third base, to race home in the top of the second.
Considering that Chris Denorfia robbed Raul Ibanez of a home run with one of the year’s best catches on Sunday, and that his run accounted for 20% of the Padres 5-4 victory, he gets the award for Thing You’ll Forget By The Weekend, But Were Really, Really Into When They Happened. Baseball has a lot of those award winners.
Denorfia, who would soon grace the cover of Baseball Tiger Beat if such a publication existed (and oh, how it should), was quoted as saying:

“I just love playing the game. I love coming to the ballpark every day. I hope my play shows that.”

Tell me more, tell me more.
Lee lasted only four innings while being charged with 10 hits and all five Padres runs, probably failed to sleep last night, instead watching the Chris Denorfia highlight with those eyeball things from A Clockwork Orange keeping him alert and focused. If you desire to be like Lee, click through to view the highlight for yourself.
(Special thanks to Duane Harris of 90 Feet of Perfection for ensuring that I did not miss a moment of Denorfia’s Monday splendor.)
