The Braves Play Hot Lava
Remember that game you used to play where the ground was made of lava and you couldn’t touch it because if you did, you died? The Braves decided to play it last night, with the Turners Field pitching mound taking on the role of Mount Vesuvius. While they defeated the Pirates at the playground game, they unfortunately lost the one that most of the fans had paid to see.
After the game, Dejan Kovacevic tweeted:
“Of Braves 27 outs, 14 came by Ks, 12 on fly balls or lineouts, one on a caught stealing. Nothing on the ground.”
Kovacevic also noted that Lyle Overbay, the Pirates first baseman and player expected to be involved in close to half the defensive plays, was not involved in a single ball put into play. Overbay only came in contact with the baseball when he was the necessary component in the 2-3 putout to complete Julio Lugo’s 9th inning strikeout.
With the Braves ranking sixth in groundball percentage this year, this becomes just the latest in a series of bizarre Pittsburgh Pirates occurences.
