The Worst Call I Have Ever Seen

After 19 innings, the Braves won a baseball game that never should have ended. Scott Proctor hit a groundball to Pedro Alvarez at third, who threw to home plate, easily beating Jordan Schafer Julio Lugo. This wasn’t one of those bang-bang plays where there was even a moment of doubt as Lugo never even reached home plate. Michael McKenry had the ball in his glove as Lugo remained a few solid feet away.

Evidence A:

Evidence B:

After 19 innings, I expected the game to end in a weird way. Probably with Dan Uggla stealing home or something equally bizarre. I did not expect to see a player called safe at home when he had barely reached the batters box.

The call, which should and will be a black eye on the sport, ruined an event seven hours in the making. It is an embarrassment.

Major League Baseball: It’s time to bring us replay. Now.
