Man Tempts Fate, Tries to Recreate Dock Ellis’ No-Hitter While High on LSD

Sometimes in the pursuit of scientific knowledge, one must make sacrifices to their health and general well being. A.J. Daulerio of Deadspin recently took the plunge when he took up his Xbox controller, fired up MLB 2K11 and dropped a tab of acid in an attempt to recreate Dock Ellis’ 1970 no-hitter.

One would think that NASA would have already covered this important study, but with their budget slashed, it was left up to one man and his buddies to boldly bring society where it had never gone before. From the first hand account

Between games I’d slump over to the left side of the couch, or wander out to the back garden, overcome by the majesty of how pretty these leaves were and how many different shades of green existed in the world and how tough it must be to distinguish all these greens. Like, how do you name a color? Whose job is that? God’s marketing directors? When does celadon morph into chartreuse? Viridian become teal? But most importantly, when did Nick Hundley become Adrian Gonzalez?

Playing this game in this enhanced condition was not very fun, especially when there were so many more things in the room to see and feel and … hear.

It’s an amazing article and one that reminds you that, while you may hate your day job, at least you aren’t playing video games for five hours in a row while high on acid. Or…I don’t know.

Anyway, there is also a video featured along with the article and I suggest you view both. For the betterment of mankind.
