Mets catch a break: “He was safe all the way. Good for us.” - Mets catcher Henry Blanco said, grinning.
Here’s what happened. With the score tied 3-3, Freddy Sanchez hit a chopper to third off Francisco Rodriguez, and David Wright threw home. Ishigawa slid under Blanco’s tag, but Cuzzi called him out, and the game continued… Mets went on to win 4-3. NYDailynews
Phil Cuzzi had to be escorted out of the game with protection. The call was wrong, but needing that level of security is wrong as well. It’s time to bring replay to the sport. Not just for the players, but so umpires don’t need to be escorted to their cars. Put a fifth ump in the booth and let him watch the replay with his voice the deciding vote.
