Remember the other day when I said Carlos Pena would have a real hard time finding a contract this offseason and that his skills were regressing etc etc etc? Well, he must be an avid reader of everything that is ever posted about him on the internet because all he’s done since then is go 5-7 with 6 RBI. Four of those came in today’s 4-2 Rays victory against the Tigers, giving David Price his 14th win of the season. It also ties Price for the Rays single season win leaderboard which he shares with Edwin Jackson, James Shields and Rolando Arrojo. I remember a brief summer where I pretended to be Arrojo in my backyard which says a lot about something. I’m just not sure what.
Brennan Boesch continued to struggle for Detroit, going 1-4 with 2 strikeouts as his average has dropped 42 points since the All Star break. His free swinging ways seem to be victimizing him and with all the injuries in Tigerland, Boesch will need to resume playing like he did in the first half. Given Boesch’s minor league track record, it’s unlikely he’s even the .300 hitter that he is currently. (AP Photo/Steve Nesius)
