The cost-cutting move nets the Orioles minor league pitcher Wynn Pelzer, which is ironic considering how few “Wynns” the Orioles have this season (Oh god. Did I just write that? And I’m leaving it there?)
It’s a decent move for the Padres as the non-factor Everth Cabrera will be relegated to the bench, but it’s not like Tejada is a great hitter at this point in his career, either. Expect Tejada’s offensive numbers to take a hit in Petco Park, but they will represent some kind of upgrade. This move is a small improvement, but in the end not one that puts a stranglehold on the West or significantly ups the chances of a Padres championship.
