In a game where Jeff Karstens was able to match Chris Carpenter for six innings (with Carpenter adding another two), it’s a shame that the Pirates had to lose it in ten innings. Even worse it came with a runner on third, the infield drawn in, and a muffed ground ball by Neil Walker to allow Ryan Ludwick to score the winning run. Worse than that, the pitch was supposed to be a pitch out, but Javier Lopez couldn’t throw it out of the strike zone and Brendan Ryan was able to get some wood on it.
Still, it’s hard to be that upset when the hero of the game is a shortstop batting .204 while wearing those gorgeous striped socks. Everyone deserves their time in the sun and Ryan’s socks deserve much more screen time.
