With everyone in the world, myself included, ripping into Ed Wade, it must have been nice for him to watch J.A. Happ shutout the Brewers for 6 innings as the Astros went on to win 5-0. Happ was a little erratic as he walked 4 batters, but the Brewers have scored the 7th most runs in the Majors and are no pushovers. Happ’s performance was flawed, but effective. Though Happ should inevitably be little more than a mid-rotation starter, stranger things have happened.
Namely, three home runs from players who have combined for a total of 15 this season. Jason Michaels, Chris Johnson (a name so generic I have to look it up every time I see it), and Jeff Keppinger.
The ‘Stros are now only 4.5 games out of third place. Yes, that’s essentially meaningless, but when you think of how bad they were at the beginning of the year that’s either a testament to the decent baseball they’ve played the rest of the way, or a condemnation of the quality of play in the Central.
